Summer weather is approaching. As we all gear up for the beaches and barbecues are we remembering to keep up with our fitness goals? After working hard all Winter, why let all of the hard work go so quickly? Join a group fitness class or program and get yourself involved with even more excitement; maybe even gain a few extra friends to join you in your spring/summer festivities.
Running outside is great and gives you a break from the treadmills you were running on all Winter. If you noticed yourself just watching t.v or reading a book while on the treadmill you were more than likely on a downward cycle that you need to quickly jump back from. How do you recover? Well its a matter of jumping off your normal routine and trying something different, such as a low impact cardio machine: Elliptical, rower, arc trainer, UBE, etc. All things you can find under the roof at the Beverly Athletic Club.
Running is great and "EASY", but let's not fool ourselves. We need to pick up the resistance training! Resistance training will not only increase your muscle tone but it will also affect your BMR (resting metabolic rate). If you could burn more calories at rest and prevent future injuries wouldn't you think picking up a weight was worth it. Its time to start getting rid of the nagging running/cardio injuries and work on the imbalances with some functional movements/training.
Injury Prevention is much better than Rehabilitation.
